Criscillia Benford

Criscillia Benford is a narratologist and media theorist who has been a Senior Fellow with FrameWorks since 2021. In her role at FrameWorks, Criscillia combines her obsession with narrative in all its forms and love for qualitative research and teaching with her commitment to leaving the world more just than she found it. As a member of the FrameWorks team, Criscillia has contributed to projects in a variety of issue areas including Childhood Development, Adolescent Development, Families, Climate Change & Environment, and Economic Justice.

Prior to joining the FrameWorks team, Criscillia taught “big ideas” courses like “Alienation,” “Evil,” and “Technological Visions of Utopia” at the University of Chicago, Duke, and Stanford. She earned her BA from the interdisciplinary Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned her MA and PhD from Stanford where she studied post-classical narratology, the history and theory of the English novel, film grammar, and the sociology of artistic forms.
